Cheap Flights Spain - Finland. My experience.

Spain is a popular destination for holidays among Finnish people. This is the picture of the home page of Air Finland and shows All Europe flights that they offer. Not France, Greece…etc. Only Spain.
I’m from Málaga and it’s good to have direct Air Finland flights (5 hours) for 130-200€ one way.
Not bad price, but you can find cheaper ways if you don’t fly directly. For example Helsinki - London, and then London-Málaga. Bad thing is that you will spend all day long in airports and you have the risk of losing your suitcases in the first flight (still didn’t happen to me) or a delayed first flight that will make that you can’t take the second flight. No refunds, because they are 2 independent flight tickets.
But if you want so save some money, you will have to take these risks.
The best tool I have found to search combination of flights is skyscanner. Also I like that you can make generic searches. From Finland (without city) to Spain, and it will show you all airports, the whole month, etc and indirect flights are automatically calculated .
After finding the right flight, jump to the airline company website to book the flight.
Ryanair (from Tampere) and Easyjet (from Helsinki) are normally the cheapest ones, both flying to London. And then London-Malaga.
Remember that flight prices only includes 1 handbag of max-weight 10 kg. Any extra suitcase you will have to pay for it. If you have an extra suitcase, Ryanair adds 15€ and limits max-weight is 15 Kg. Easyjet adds 9 pounds and max-weight is 20 Kg.
Also, they will add other extra in the last step of the payment. Because of paying with credit card you will have to pay some extra euros. (Except Easyjet it will be free if you pay with Visa Electron).
So if you take 2 flights, multiply by 2 these “extras”.. and think if still worth it. Also add the price of a meal in London airport because you’ll be hungry after the first flight. (And you will have to change cash to pounds to pay!)
More tips:
- GOOD news. Ryanair will open a base in Málaga, opening a direct route Málaga - Tampere since June 2010. Also from Málaga to Aarhus, Berlin (Schonefeld), Bratislava, Eindhoven, Gothenburg, Krakow, Maastricht, Memmingen (Munich West), Oslo (Torp), Paris (Beauvais), Pisa, Santander, Santiago, Stockholm (Skavsta), Valladolid, Venice (Treviso), Wroclaw and Zaragoza.
- Cheap flights airlines are VERY strict with sizes and weights… some times being ridiculous about it. Don’t risk, make sure you are not overweight. And your handbag is correct size.
- If you are planing to go to Helsinki, a Tampere->Helsinki Train costs (now)

- If you fly to Helsinki, the airport is located in Vantaa, you can take a cheap bus 615 that goes to Helsinki or Airport taxi for 25€ for 2 people.
I will add here more tips in the future. I hope it’s helpful. Please ! add some tips in the comments, or experiences. I will like to know your experience too.
Update 9th of June. These holidays I took 2 flights with Easyjet from Málaga -> Manchester -> Helsinki, about 100 € all together. I was lucky that the vulcano wasn’t active during that time and I didn’t have problems except that my suitcase was lost in Manchester (it didn’t arrive from Málaga). I had to fill a form and happy end: They ship the suitcase to my address in Helsinki and it arrived 1 week later. No extra cost. I had to call them all the time to know about the status of the process, at the beginning they give you a reference and you can track it online in mylostbag.com. If it happens to you, don’t worry, 95% of suitcases are found

Es verdad que el tren Hel-Tmp es 28 €, se me fue la olla. 36€ fue un tren que fuí cerca de Tampere en Navidades.
Lo de Ryanair roza la estafa. Hay que ir con cuidado. Te intentan meter extras por todos lados. Dicen que estan pensando poner 1€ por visita al baño. Y no es broma.
Ryanair con escala en Bremen es otra combinación a probar. Yo lo hice así el año pasado.
PD. Te he editado una errata. Alicante a Helsinki a 12.5 € era demasiado bueno para ser verdad

Hola Corbacho, pues está claro a qué se dedica Ryanair, a jugar con fuego reduciendo los costes hasta los límites legales (o incluso pasándolos) y cobrar hasta por sentarse, de todas formas mientras las condiciones sean totalmente explícitas y las tasas las muestren desde un primer momento tampoco lo veo mal desde el punto de vista del cliente, es lo que hay y si a uno no le convence… Pues toca buscarse alternativas, de todas formas yo aún no sé como es un baño de avión y he hecho 8 vuelos en un año…
Por cierto, me acabo de enterar de otra alternativa para llegar a Tampere y que además parece bastante barata, consiste en hacer escala en Polonia (Gdansk o Varsovia) y luego volar a Turku con Wizzair.

I just saw a group on Facebook in which their were a thread which saying that SAS is providing a service UTO(Upgrade Travel Option). For those people who want to be upgraded to higher classes in pocket friendly budget.
In UTO, one can get a chance to upgrade into Economy Extra or Business Class. You just have to pay little more like upgrade prices starts from EUR 175, I got this from www.optiontown.com. Also a good thing .. airBaltic is also offering the similar concept right now ….

Hola chicos, tengo varias dudas soy de mexico y este verano me quiero ir a tampere a estudiar en el mes de julio pero la verdad veo los costos de los boletos de avion y son caros. Alguno de ustedes sabe como llegar alla de forma no tan cara, es decir busque vuelos a helsinki y creo que es mas barato y de ahi moverme al tren, pero me pueden decir que tan alejado esta el tren del aeropuerto? tambien me gustaria saber si alguno de ustedes me puede dar referencia de lo que gasto en las comidas o demas datos que puedan ser utiles, de verdad se los agradeceria muchisisisismo.

Tampere tiene un aeropuerto pequeño desde donde opera Raynair. Tampere está a una hora del aerouperto de Helsinki, pero no sé si hay trenes directos.

buenas, soy una estudiante erasmus y buscando vuelos a Finlandia, me he encontrado con este blog. para viajar a Turku, me podeis decir cuál podria ser de las compañías mas baratas? es que he visto que habeis viajado por 225 euros, y es que eso es lo que me costaria a mi solo la ida.

Lucía. Puedes buscar vuelos a Tampere (Ryanair) o Helsinki (Easyjet) y desde esa ciudad ir a Turku por tren (puede que te salga entre 20-40 € el ticket de tren).

O como dice Elías, volando con wizzair va a Turku directamente desde Budapest y Gdansk.
El caso es que tienes que encontrar una ciudad donde hacer escala y a partir de ahí buscar las mejores ofertas partiendo el trayecto en 2 (o 3 si optas por el tren) y si puede ser en el mismo día para ahorrarte noche de hotel.
Un coñazo y muchas horas buscando alternativas, diferentes días/horarios/combinaciones pero seguro que encuentras algún chollo y recompensa. Además que puedes decir que has estado en Polonia jejeje aunque sean 3 horas.

Hola Corbacho, mi nombre es Elías, hace tiempo que frecuento tu blog aunque creo que es la primera vez que comento, esta semana he vuelto de mi viaje a Finlandia, así que por mi reciente experiencia puedo aportar algunas cosillas:
- El viaje de Helsinki a Tampere me costó 28,80 €, dura una hora y media aproximadamente.
- A mí me costó ir y volver desde Alicante a Helsinki unos 225 € ida y vuelta por persona, que no está mal, ¿Como? Pues con un avión de Alicante a
HelsinkiBarcelona con Spanair (12,5 € aprox. por trayecto y menos de 1 hora de vuelo) y de Barcelona a Helsinki en 3:30, volando con Blue1, a una media de casi 100 el viaje. Spanair, a pesar de ser de bajo coste, sí me permitía llevar una maleta, eso sí, el avión en ambos casos fue bastante cutrecillo, pero tampoco se puede pedir más.Con Ryanair, la forma más fácil es hacer escala en Frankfurt o Londres, eso sí, como los vuelos tienen todos los días la misma hora de salida, lo más normal es que algún día toque perderlo en el aeropuerto, en mi caso fueron 7 horas en la escala de la ida y 11 en la vuelta. Para estos casos, lo mejor es reservar un poco de espacio y peso en la maleta e ir tirando de sandwiches en las escalas… Un poco cutre, pero es que pagar 3 € por una botellita de agua duele y mucho.
Ayer comprobé los precios de Ryanair por si acaso podía ir en verano y se están volviendo un poco insoportables con las tasas que se han sacado de la manga, entiendo que tengan que subir los precios para cubrir gastos, pero es muy cansino eso de ver que supuestas ofertas de 6 €, te acaba saliendo el vuelo por 45 sin maletas, por decir algo, con lo poco que cuesta decirlo desde un primer momento.
