A video made by some really creative Finnish guys. Filmed in the lake Saarijärvi in Vaala, Finland
I found in the comments of Big in Finland: 20 curiosities about Finland a little gem: A Finnish instructional video from 1979:
Don’t miss the comments in Youtube hilarious
Having a walk today on Sunday in Helsinki we found a small celebration: Helsinki’s centre was lit up with the annual Christmas Street opening. In this article of YLE says that this year Helsinki’s Christmas Street Aleksanterinkatu is illuminated with LED lights for the first time.
Can you see the red-dressed chorus?
It was quite original that one of the songs was a rap with beat-boxing. Poor guys were freezing and my hands too, sorry for the shaky image.
Finnish people are used to this, but foreigners could not know that in winter, when temperature starts to go below 0, means that it’s time of long underwear (kerrasto).
Coming back to home, sunset already at 5 PM.
I will spend this Xmas in Finland, so probably I will post more pictures, hopefully white Christmas again like last year.
Marko is a Finnish guy who uploads videos to his Youtube channel Markorepairs. Most of them are in Finnish, but last week has upload two videos in English that are spreading on Internet really fast. See reddit, facebook, and twitter.
I hope not, but I believe that these videos
could be part of some campaign [Confirmed. Is was not a campaign] because I noticed over the years I have been in Finland that many Finnish advertisement campaigns have a self-deprecating humor. This says a lot about Finnish people and their modesty.
For example, we have seen it in Lidl’s Finnish Campaign, Markku promoting Finland during Eurovision, and lastly Pekka and Mauri promoting Finland in Shanghai’s Expo 2010.
Here two more examples:
Also, this other Finnish viral from the past it’s a disco dancing video from Åke Blomqvist (a famous Finnish dance teacher), that sure you have seen. I have seen Åke in the tram a couple of times (proof), since his dancing school is near by where I’m leaving.
Beginning this year Karhu (bear in Finnish) had started to sell in Finland 1 litre-cans.
You can see a normal size can next to it. And also a taller 0.5l format.
Like my friend Stefan already told me, perfect to make jokes with sentences that include “Only one beer and…”
WTF? It’s not a boomerang, is not a baby’s hockey stick.. it’s a 50€ stick for “relaxing” your back.
I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn’t work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather.. Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it’s still on the list.
Sex is not the answer. Sex is the question. “Yes” is the answer.
Women might be able to fake orgasms. But men can fake a whole relationship.

Nice Finnish humor from Tampere. Kummeli is a Finnish comedy crew that are famous in Finland mostly because of their TV show between 1991 and 1995. (more in Wikipedia)
I still don’t know so good Finnish to understand the jokes, so I put a couple of clips that are internationally funny, i.e. without dialogs. In these ones appears the musician & actor Heikki Silvennoinen, part of Kummeli and a celebrity in Finland.
The first one: Krapula (hang over)
And Effect sounds!
I found yesterday in the postbox a really silly advertisement of Lidl. By the way, here in Finland normally you get the post in your own door when you are living in a flat. And still it’s scary for me sometimes when the postman throws into the apartment the papers/advertisement through the postbox… specially the guy who deliver these free newspapers at 5 in the morning ¿who is making noise in the entrance? In Spain we have postbox in the hall of the building (flat).
Let’s go to the point: Really silly this parody low-budget advertisement of Lidl: It seems they invented a name “Hans von Blumenstock”, like it will be the name of a famous basketball player, who has a german accent and horrible mustache. #23 in reference to Michael Jordan ¿and Roger Federer hairstyle?. And they mix the Nike and Adidas slogans:
“Just Do It”
+ “Impossible is Nothing”
LIDL: “Just Drink it, because nothing is impossible.”
So bad commercial that I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
They make some web/IRC stuff (Finnish) and just when I was writing this, I see that they are broadcasting also a spot in TV. In LIDL webpage also you can see a small video where Hans von Blumenstock says “Life is like a full bottle, just drink it… and…. that is”. O_o
I don’t like Cola, but they say that Lidl Freeway Cola is really similar taste to the original, at least I hear it in Spain. Do you have some experience about it?
A trillion of these.
