A glance at Tampere

Since living in Tampere, I would like to show my relatives and friends in Spain that living in Tampere, and Finland in general, is not so cold weather always, I mean it’s not that cold all year long. Now that the summer is coming and I can prove it, I prepared a short videoclip showing Tampere through Näsinneula tower sights. Also I wanted to show the large amount of hours of day light in summer, something surprising even to me. Although I have been 1 year studying before in Helsinki, this is my first summer in Tampere.
You can download it here in in better quality (50 Mb) or watch it just under these lines through youtube (click on HQ button). Spanish version here.
Some details about the video:
- Most information I got it at Wikipedia: Tampere, Tammerkoski, Näsinneula tower.
- Photos and maps thanks to Wikimedia, Google Images, Flickr, and webcam images captured automatically during 24 hours from Sarkanniemi webpage.
- Music: From the advertisement of H&M Matthew Williamson
- Made with Adobe After Effects.
Spot Matthew Williamson H&M

Every 15 minutes you can see this spot of H&M in TV. It’s starting to get boring, but the song still is catchy and I like the surrealistic photography of the spot.

The director of the spot is Johan Renck, (Swedish, as the H&M company). And has insteresting work history with H&M before, other famous brands and made music videos. The H&M spot can be downloaded here (Quicktime, 30 Mb)
It seems the ad is broadcasted in all Europe and also in Spain the song is getting popular, so the authors Malcolm Pardon y Fredrik Rinman have released the song as a single “We need a change” under the artistic name “stereo lies”. It’s in youtube, iTunes and you can download it.

Promoting my hometown… ESTEPONA (Málaga)
Estepona, in the coast of Málaga is renowned for its beaches, which stretch along some 21 km of coastline. Bordering with Marbella, its population in 2007 is 65.0000. More data en Wikipedia.
When here snow starts to melt, in Estepona people starts to go to the beach… it’s not fair, not.
Jenkki with Åke Blomqvist

Do you remember this viral video of a teacher of disco dancing a couple of years ago? Well, I saw it, but I didn’t know that is FINNISH. Exactly his name is Åke Blomqvist and it’s a famous Finnish dance teacher. The song is called Moskau by Dschinghis Khan , there is also a Finnish version of the song called Volga by Frederik. Enjoy! I love it.
Now Jenkki, a chewing gum/candys brand very popular in Finland wants to rescue his virality. I saw a lot of print ads, billboards and TV commercials during the begining of 2009. I wanted to write about it before, but I didn’t see any video in Internet or Youtube. Finally last week I saw that they publish it in jenkki.fi, but …. in the moment I’m writing this I check and it’s not anymore in the front page. I don’t understand why. Anyway, you can access by this url still, I don’t know for how long. http://www.jenkki.fi/twisted/twisted.swf. (screenshot). And also someone put it in youtube:
The name of the song is Ernst August Quellen Weekend Twist
Snowflakes falling.

A short clip of home made video of 30 secs where you can see snowing two days ago in a little town not far from Tampere. Sorry about the quality, I made it with a crappy cammera, mine is broken
I miss it a lot.
Job Fair Tip - How to present yourself
Wednesday January 28th, 2009. 04:42 AM. Published under Job, Videos. No Comments.
Tomorrow, 29th of January I will go to Contact Forum 2009, a recruitment fair. Is one of the most acknowledged career fairs in Finland, targeted for university students.

Also I am thinking to go tomorrow to a lecture in Tampere University:
Listen to the experiences of international graduates and students
Career Evening
Thursday 29.1. at 17.00 – 20.00,
UTA main building, auditorium D10a, Kalevantie 4
And next week, 5th of February to Tampereen Yrityspäivät in Tampere.
I like this kind of events, because you can meet directly to employers and to know more about the companies and their job offers. And also sell yourself better and give a better impression than by email or telephone.
Just now I’m preparing my CVs and getting more information of the companies. One of the collaborators of Contact Forum is Universum, a company that offer services and products that help employers attract talents. They have several web sites for job seekers, all of them with great web design, and one of them is CareerTV. It’s a pity that is focused on USA companies, but anyway, I show you one video clip I found useful for present yourself in a Job Fair.
Documentary: Finland, a paradise close by
Thursday December 4th, 2008. 10:15 AM. Published under Finland culture, Videos. 1 Comment.
Spanish national TV (RTVE) is starting, since this year, to offer many TV programs, series and shows directly from their web page, so you can see them whenever you want. I feel lucky to have this service due to the fact that I can’t access other way to Spanish TV channels.
Päivi when was in Spain was not so lucky, even YLE offers many TV programs throught their webpage, they don’t let connections from outside of the country.

So the clip of video I want to show you it’s this documentary that I will watch tonight: Finland, a paradise close by, (55 min) made recently by RTVE (so is in spanish). I’m sending this video to all my relatives in Spain so they can know a little more about Finnish costumes, culture and geography. There is more info here, and you can access to more Spanish documentaries “A paradise close by” here.
You can download it too in .flv format
Hope you like it. Tomorrow I will edit this post with my opinion about it.
EDIT
It was interesting, but almost nothing new that I didn’t know. The documentary was from a touristic point of view, so I think it gives a general picture of Finland but doesn’t go deep inside of Finnish culture or costumes. They talk about Lapland, Rovaniemi, Ice Hotels, Santa Claus Park, Turku and Helsinki, given quite detailed information about architecture in these two last cities.
I think the documentary was filmed in the Spring, when still is snow and daylight is increasing. That gives the “typical” picture of snowed Finland, but Hello!, Finland has summer too and different activities. Finland landscapes change totally during summer, so the documentary gives only one side of Finland in this aspect.
